“Receive children in reverence, educate them in love, and let them go forth in freedom.” - Rudolf Steiner
Our Story
It all began with a promise to her children and a dream...
Meet Alex, the founder of Infused Kinder Cottage.
Alex is an educator, yoga instructor, aromatherapist, and most importantly a mother of four. She is a graduate of the 2024 Lifeways Early Childhood Certificate Program and has served as a classroom assistant, and homeschool teacher. A lifelong learner with deep passion for holistic wellness and education, Alex has dedicated her life to nurturing and guiding others.
Her path to founding Infused Kinder Cottage is rooted in a promise she made to her children - that they would always be able to learn in freedom, while receiving a nourishing education based on Rudolph Steiner pedagogy (otherwise known as Waldorf education).
From the moment she discovered this healing, soul-honoring philosophy more than fifteen years ago, Alex embraced it deeply, bringing it into her own family and then into her work with students. She has witnessed the gentle power of this approach to meet each child where they are, awakening creativity, confidence, and trust in the learning process.
At Infused Kinder Cottage, Alex weaves together all that she loves into a living rhythm - honoring childhood with connection to nature, creativity, imagination, and calm. Through this rhythm, children experience education as a joyful unfolding, rooted in beauty, balance and wonder.
Infused Kinder Cottage has grown into an educational hub that feels like a retreat for homeschooling families, offering Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 8 in a setting unlike anything else in Tujunga, Los Angeles. Children are welcomed into a soulful, earth-filled oasis, where daily rhythms blend multi-subject academics, nature-based play, specialty enrichment, and practices that nurture both body and spirit. From gardening and handwork to Soundbath and mindful rest, younger students build strong foundations in language arts, math, science, and other areas, while also participating in specialty enrichment instruction, that prepares them for the next stage of learning. Children in Grades 1 through 8 experience the full rhythm of enrichment at the Cottage, while their main lesson blocks are carefully guided and supported at home. Our Sanctuary is a unique offering, one that Alex has created with intention and care to nurture each child and serve the community in a meaningful way.

"I believe when children engage in child-led play, they practice managing emotions, solving problems, and navigating social interactions - all skills for life and learning."
"As parents we must understand the importance of offering the child an environment where they can do their important work of play. This is the most precious gift that we can offer a child during their tender years. Play strengthens children's bodies, expands their minds, and influences many dimensions of development."
"Together we can honor each child by providing a developmentally appropriate child-centered environment that protects the sanctuary of childhood."
- Alex Lauterio

Philosophy
At the core of our philosophy is the belief that childhood should unfold gently and with reverence, honoring the natural rhythms of growth and learning. In today's fast-paced world, we believe it is essential to provide children a peaceful environment, grounded in nature, where they can slow down, breathe, reconnect with themselves and find rest for their souls.
Children play and learn in our fragrant and whimsical Certified Wildlife Habitat garden, where they experience the healing power of nature. Children at the Cottage joyfully discover the world through their senses, engage in meaningful social interactions, and learn in freedom without the pressure or comparison often found in conventional educational settings.
With small group sizes and a strong emphasis on nurturing respectful relationships, our loving educator ensures each child feels seen, heard, and valued - knowing that their needs will be met with care and intention. Our mixed-age rhythm creates a rich, dynamic social environment where littles are gently inspired by their "bigger friends," while older children naturally grow into roles of quiet leadership, playful guidance, and a caring presence.
We are devoted to building a judgment-free, inclusive community centered on the whole child - head, heart, and hands . We also deeply value the relationship between educator, child, and parent. We know that homeschooling takes energy, rhythm, and resilience, and it can sometimes feel isolating. That's why we've created a space where parents feel supported, too.
Our days unfold with intention and rhythm. Mornings begin with gentle grounding; then, like a breath, the day opens wide into a space of artistic immersion, where creativity becomes the curriculum, alongside gentle language arts, math, and foundational learning for our youngest students. Our conservatory-inspired model places the arts as the living heart of our program. Children engage deeply with visual, fiber, culinary, and healing arts as soulful forms of expression, connection, and full-body learning. Their days are also touched by the richness of world and cultural arts, where language, song, and movement from diverse traditions awaken curiosity and a connection to the wider world.
Our dedicated music studio invites children to play instruments and explore rhythm, melody, and improvisation. Music and sound surround the children throughout the day, creating a harmonious backdrop that supports transitions and nurtures a sense of togetherness. Through song, circle, storytelling, and free play, children move with the natural rhythms of the day. Whether dancing with silks, kneading dough, or gathering herbs for afternoon tea, movement is a way of being fully alive - expressed through their bodies, their breath, and the soulfulness of their unfolding.
Children tend the garden and care for the animals who share our land, forming quiet bonds - especially with our chickens and goats - as they learn to move gently, listen closely, and show up with reverence. These simple, sacred tasks invite empathy and mindful presence, grounding them in a sense of belonging to something greater. Through the rhythms of nature, hands-on experiences with soil, essential oils, and intentional care, children cultivate compassion, and a deep connection to all living things.
As parents, we all want our children to enjoy their childhood. We create nurturing spaces that help them grow up with a sense of balance, grounded in love. At the Cottage, you will find hope and healing within a vibrant community of conscious parents. Together, we focus on what is good and true, helping our children discover the beauty still present in our world. The cherished connections with one another and the nurturing, grounding atmosphere, create a space that feels like a big hug, barefoot in mud under the trees.

Program
Kindergarten (ages 5-6) meets Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, focusing on early literacy, foundational math skills, and developmental readiness for first-grade. Learning is gentle, experiential, and multi-sensory: children explore letters and numbers through stories, movement, games, and hands-on activities, such as forming letters in the sand, drawing shapes outdoors, and participating in rhythm and sequencing exercises. Literacy blossoms as Miss Alex gently guides children through daily verses, songs, stories, and movement, nurturing language and vocabulary, and counting games, which lays the groundwork for early math skills, sequencing, and number sense.
Transitional Kindergarten (ages 4-5) meets Thursday and Friday, providing a nurturing, play based introduction to group learning. At this stage, children are developing independence, focus, and coordination while strengthening their will and social capacities. Learning happens through imaginative play, hands on exploration, rhythm, and purposeful daily activities. Fine motor skills develop naturally alongside rhythmic exercises and hands-on activities like cooking, baking, and setting the table, helping coordination and practical skills emerge through playful, meaningful work.
Children in Grades 1 through 8 are fully immersed in our enirchment offerings.
Through artistic expression, the heart of Steiner education, children delight in the magic of oral storytelling, puppet plays, tales from faraway lands, and whispers of nature and animal fables. Stories spark laughter, joy, and reflection while carrying messages that inspire kindness and ethical growth, stirring the children's imagination and heart.
Waldorf education places emphasis on the limbs as an extension of our understanding and ability to fully communicate. Games and spacial dynamics nurture and cultivate active exploration of the physical self, coordination, and movement through space. Age-appropriate games such as jump rope, obstacle courses, four corners, tug-of-war, hula hooping, ball games, and even the playful challenge of a pogo stick build joy and stamina while deepening rhythm, cooperation, and social connection. Our outdoor play garden features a swing set designed for all ages, including a stand-up skateboard that helps older children develop balance. Through creative moment, responsive games, and purposeful play, children grow in confidence, strength, and connection with themselves and one other.
Our daily nature walks are both grounding and educational, guiding the children through our healing gardens, which serve as an open-air aromatherapy classroom, where the scent of lemon verbena and lavender mingle with the delights of seasonal blooms and discoveries. Along the path children's senses, awaken as they brush their fingers over velvety leaves and petals, and move with care and curiosity through each garden path. Over time, they come to know the plants by name and by purpose, learning their properties, medicinal uses, and seasonal rhythms not just through lessons but through repeated encounters. Even outside of our guided walks, they are drawn back again and again, often gathering mint, sage, or calendula to carry home, remembering what each plant offers.
Our garden path naturally leads us to where the children are welcomed by the gentle peeps of baby chicks and the soft rustling of our beloved hens and goats. This daily journey, full of scent, touch, color, and quiet delight prepares them to care for the chickens with tenderness and intention. The rhythm of moving from the healing gardens into animal care invites both grounding and responsibility, nurturing their sense of stewardship alongside their wonder.
From the sight of butterflies just emerged from their chrysalises to the hush of quiet moments spent beneath blooming boughs, these gardens become a place of belonging. This daily rhythm fosters not only botanical understanding but a deepening relationship with the land, rooted in beauty, reverence, and the language of living things.

The children learn the art of Eurythmy, a beautiful movement practice that combines speech, rhythm, and dance to express meaning - often accompanied by the soft motion of colored silks in hand. This enrichment supports sensory-motor development, enhances coordination, and stimulates the language centers of the brain.
Infused yoga, soundbath, and meditation guided by fairy tale, animal, and nature themes, help children release
overexcited energy, settle into calm, and connect their minds with their bodies. Through breath work, they begin to cultivate mindfulness and self-regulation skills such as impulse control, focus, and emotional balance. Movement becomes a language of its own, fostering confidence in self-expression and offering a safe space for exploration at each child's unique developmental stage. These therapeutic practices gently lay the foundation for deeper connection, healthier relationships, and holistic personal growth.
Handwork is practiced because the child's will is a sacred force - one that must be nurtured with care. The ability to complete a task, to bring an idea into form, is gently developed and encouraged through the skills introduced in this enrichment. Children engage in knitting, sewing, and wool felting with projects lovingly tailored to their age and ability. Through this work of the hands, the will is met in a productive and satisfying manner, strengthening perseverance, purpose, and quiet joy.
The joy of baking flourishes at the Cottage. Our young chefs eagerly wander the gardens selecting edible flowers and herbs for our tasty cookies, breads, crisp afternoon salads, and herbal teas. Their enthusiasm shines as they help create colorful vegetable and fruit smoothies, freshly pressed juices, and chopped vegetables for comforting soups and dips. The children delight in a charming culinary journey!
Nature-based art is a time for our children to explore the beauty of creativity through coloring, watercolor painting, beeswax modeling and clay sculpting. They gather natural elements like flowers and herbs from our Healing Gardens to press into seasonal crafts, or use in special projects such as essential oil blending. Children dive into open-ended creations that inspire their imagination and connect them with our natural ambiance. At the Cottage, they are on an artistic journey and nature is their canvas!
Our chickens and goats are not just animals to observe, they are beloved companions in the daily rhythm of cottage life. Each one is known by name, and children form personal bonds with them as they gather fresh eggs, fill feeders, and gently carry them into the play garden. It's not uncommon to find a child holding their favorite chicken on the swing or setting up a "chicken massage" station on a tree stump. The youngest ones often crawl through the herbs on all fours, clucking and fully immersed in their imaginative chicken play. These shared moments of care inspire empathy and a lived understanding of our interconnectedness. Through these daily rituals, children nurture their love for animals and begin to understand the rhythms and responsibilities of caring for the living world around them.
Farm and garden work gives our children a grounding activity that helps them to connect deeply with nature. With their hands in the soil, they plant seeds, tend sprouts, and later harvest fruits, vegetables, and herbs from our organic, regenerative, biodynamic garden. What they grow becomes part of their meals, nourishing snacks, fresh-pressed juices, warm soups, and garden teas, allowing them to experience the full cycle of seed to table. This hands-on rhythm cultivates a lived understanding of sustainable farming, the rewards of mindful effort, and the joys of eating what why've grown.
On our farm the world of essential oils comes alive as children engage in caring for plants and learning the journey of turning nature's gifts into essential oils through aromatherapy projects, culinary explorations, and gentle animal care. Children discover how these natural essences support well-being and joyful connection to the environment. When children breathe in nature's plant juice, they smile and let out such a joyous exhale!
At Infused Kinder Cottage, music is a healing thread that moves through the heart of our days. Rooted in rhythm, movement, and soulful connection, our music enrichment is led by a skilled facilitator and invites children into an unpressured, heart-led relationship with sound.
Drum circles, breath-based rhythm games, seasonal singing, and world music exploration fill our space with energy and life. Children co-create music using drums and instruments from around the world - brought from home, shared in community, or discovered through hands-on making. Together, we explore how sound travels, how rhythm unites us, and how music becomes the language of the soul - a source of healing, release, and belonging.
Our music room is a sacred space for expression and emotional grounding. Whether tapping a beat, swaying to melody, or letting their voice rise freely, children come to know music as something they feel in their hands, their feet, and their hearts.
Outdoors, the air carries the soft tones of pentatonic wind chimes, inviting stillness and reverence into everyday play. These gentle notes echo throughout our days, grounding children in beauty and calm. Here, music isn't just heard. It's lived.
We incorporate seasonal festivals that help children appreciate the rhythms of the year while honoring cultural diversity and nurturing a sense of community. During harvest season, for example, we celebrate the Waldorf tradition of lantern making and a reverent lantern walk. This meaningful ritual invites children to recognize their own inner light and share it with the world around them. We also honor other Waldorf festivals and welcome the opportunity to include meaningful cultural or spiritual traditions from your family. If there is a ritual close to your heart, we warmly invite you to share it with our community.
Conservatory Daily Rhythm
Thoughtfully designed for homeschooled families with children inTransitional Kindergarten through Grade 8
With a steady intentional rhythm, our children find comfort and security in knowing what to expect each day. Mornings begin in our Certified Wildlife Habitat play garden, where Miss Alex warmly welcomes the children. The day opens with a gathering circle, gentle verses, songs, and stories where children also engage in early, integrated learning, followed by a guided nature walk through the healing gardens. Children inhale the energizing scents of peppermint geranium, strawberry mint, and other medicinal plants, explore textures, spot tiny surprises such as a creeping caterpillar or new blooms of the season, before greeting the chickens. Children participate in simple care, such as feeding and watering.
Each day children engage in jump roping, obstacle courses, walking on balance beams, hopping, skipping, and jumping on hay bales, hula hooping, pogo sticks, and playful games that develop coordination, rhythm, and balance.
Afternoons at Infused Kinder Cottage bloom into an artistic conservatory rhythm, where enrichment and the arts take center stage, inviting children to deepen their creative expression and connection to the world. Each day features a unique focus that nurtures different aspects of the whole child.
Children enrolled in the Full-Bundle Program continue through the afternoon, and enjoy a grounding Soundbath. This daily practice helps children transition into the slower rhythm of the rest of the day, offering a moment of stillness and restoration. Crystal singing bowls fill the room with soothing tones that invite the children to relax deeply and feel centered.
Families are encouraged to choose the days that feel most nourishing for their child, so they may fully engage in the rhythm of our program according to their age and interests. Kindergarten gentle academic sessions unfold Monday through Wednesday, with Transitional Kindergarten held Thursday and Friday. Instruction is guided to each child's developmental readiness within the multi-age structure.

Hand-in-Hand: Saturday Parent-Child Class Series
We welcome families as they begin their journey with our beloved Saturday Parent-Child class, a gentle and nurturing introduction to the heart of our community. Each Saturday invites families into our joyful farm experience, feeding chickens, tending the garden, and playing freely in our Certified Wildlife Habitat, which also serves as a whimsical, nature-rich play garden full of discovery. Even the youngest child, though not yet ready to gather eggs or rake leaves, feels a deep sense of belonging. Perhaps they simply hold the egg basket while receiving a soft bounce on Miss Alex’s knee or listen wide-eyed as older children sing nearby. Every child is held in rhythm and reverence, their presence cherished in each unfolding moment.
As we make our way beyond the play garden, Miss. Alex leads the children on a nature walk through the healing gardens - living classrooms brimming with textures, scents, and the quiet wisdom of medicinal plants. Along the path, children are invited to touch, smell, and explore; learning the names of each plant and discovering their nourishing qualities. They come to understand the benefits and gentle power held in each leaf and petal. Children delight in noticing tiny sprouts, new blooms, and the quiet changes that mark the turning of the season. It is a space of wonder and connection, where the senses are awakened, and the Earth begins to speak.
As children discover the joy of playing with new friends and caring for our farm animals, parents are invited to explore along side their child, sip tea, and connect with one another while engaged in purposeful, nourishing work. Principles of Waldorf Education and family-centered parenting practices are experienced naturally and explored through conversation.
